Alisha Cowie, 20, from Spennymoor, County Durham, studying Crime Scene Investigation and Forensic Science at Teesside University, beat 50 beauties to take the crown of the Miss England 2018 finals after being crowned Miss Newcastle 2017.
Alisha paid a lot for this beauty pageant-Miss England. For the competition, she said:
“I prepared for Miss England, I’m not going to lie, it took all my life. I want it so bad. And I worked so hard.”
“For me, the biggest thing to prepare for maybe is charity round. Actually, I need prepare for everything. And then just bring your personality out. I guess being not appearance wise, but being like polished and natural.”

Alisha did a large amount of charity work for ‘Beauty with a Purpose‘ and also ‘Evening Chronicle Sunshine Fund‘ and has even travelled to Nepalto pursue her charity work.
At the same time, in this competition, she also encountered many difficulties. She said:
“I always plagued by comparing yourself to the people. I think it’s very hard especially with things like social media gets very hard to not look at someone else and constantly think, they’re gonna win or they are better than me. So one of the most difficult things for me is not compare myself to anyone.”

Behind her success, Alisha had suffered from anorexia and even a tendency to self-harm because she had been relentlessly bullied at school, when she was 13.
At the age of 15, Alisha’s friend Sarah committed suicide, spurring her to seek change.
But at this time, Alisha found that her hearing was not working. The situation was getting worse. The doctor diagnosed her with hearing loss, and if things don’t improve, she may need to carry a hearing aid in the future.
For this situation Alisha explained for us. She said:
“I have no obstacles to one-on-one conversations indoors, but if I’m talking to two or more people, it’s hard for me to keep up. When I’m in a crowded place, everything is noisy to me, and I can never make voices and conversations out.”
“It was very scary, but I had to force myself to change and keep telling myself that I would be fine. I began to learn sign language and lip reading, so if the worst was to happen, I’d have options.”
For four years Alisha has been actively involved in treatment and responded actively. Until she became Miss England 2018.
She is very brave, stunning, positive and told her story openly to encourage young people in similar situations. Like she said, beauty is about acceptance, who can be yourself and not be sorry about it. Someone who complete themselves and confident in that confidence is definitely a huge factor in beauty.
I don’t know. Just because someone’s pretty doesn’t mean she’s decent. Or vice versa. I’m not into appearances. I like flaws, I think they make things interesting.
