How much will people spend on their faces a month in Newcastle?

We conducted a small investigation in Newcastle about how much people spend on their faces every month, mainly for university students and middle-aged people.

The investigation this week revealed that the 30-40s spend three times more on their faces than the 20s. Indeed, the 30-40s averages £50 per month on the face, which totally £600 per year, while the 20s averages £15 per month.

Approximately £600 a year on beauty products – that works out at £1.67 per day on the 12 different products we use on our faces.

According to research from the online beauty retailer, the actual value of these 12 facial beauty and makeup products is £113.77 at any one time. Let’s figure out that £113.77 pounds could buy a month’s worth of pasta, 36 tall skinny lattes at Costa. But who CARES, when you’ve got the latest life-giving highlighter?

In the vox pop, Serums were revealed as the most expensive facial beauty purchases for women and also is the most investment-worthy beauty product, with an average of £17.41 spent per product, with research showing that older age groups are investing more in their skin with premium branded serums – 20.5 per cent of women aged 45-55 spend over £30 on this product alone.

“I spend an embarrassing amount of money on beauty. I get facials, balayage, manicures, and basically every other beauty treatment. I probably spend about £40-£50 a month on my appearance, but to me it always feels worth it. I just like looking and feeling pretty. I honestly think it makes me better at my job and at life, because I feel so confident.” -Katie, 30

“I definitely admit that I’m a beauty addict, especially when it comes to all things colorful. For example, I mess around with lipsticks, nail polish, eyeshadow, eyeliner, everything where I can have a range of colors, I’m addicted. Between that and my regular beauty products, I end up spending probably about £30 a month. Which feels like a lot.” -Anna, 23

During our interview, an elder made an interesting point, William Jefferson, 63, he said:

“In Newcastle, young people spend most of their money on fast food than beauty product.”

When it comes to why people care more and more about ‘appearance maintenance’, most people think that social media puts too much pressure on people and always wants to show their perfection.

Beauty is a kind of feeling, people are totally right to pursue beauty, they will feel unprecedented confidence, but the premise is to measure what you can squander and what needs to be saved before buying beauty products.

Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.
